[home & decor] dna art
Here's a neat way to show off your appreciation for the arts and sciences at the same time (even if you don't know a lick about either discipline). A company called DNA11 creates abstract art from a sample of your DNA. Here's how it works: you deposit your saliva into a tube, the sample is then sent to a laboratory where the DNA is extracted to create a unique genetic fingerprint, using a technique that takes advantage of the variation that occurs among the DNA sequence of every individual. With me so far? Good. A special camera then captures the image which is digitally enhanced, cropped, color adjusted, adding colors and filter effects. The end result is canvas-style art which you can display in your living room. There are several options available in terms of the type of portrait you want created, and prices range from $390 to $1,300. All you need to do is spit, pay, hang up the art and wait for all your friends to comment on how they never knew you had such an intellectual side.
