[food] chanko-nabe @ imanas tei, honolulu

High praise on Metblog Hawaii for Japanese eatery Imanas Tei in Honolulu. Imanas Tei serves up chanko-nabe, a staple dish among sumo wrestlers who are trying to bulk up quickly. Nabe (short for "nabemono") is a hearty, filling one-pot meal, consisting of broth, vegetables, and meat or seafood. The idea is to cook the mounds of raw meat and vegtables that are served up into a large broth-filled pot. If you, like me, are now fascinated by the sumo food sub-culture, there's a lot more info (including a couple of recipes) provided in the insightful, memoir-style piece written by Tania Kadokura. Which reminds me, someone should really write and/or film "Memoirs of a Sumo Wrestler."
