[food + travel] indian raja restaurant latvia
One of my uncles (who is of Indian descent) has a saying: "Indians are like potatoes...you can find them anywhere in the world." I never quite understood his little proverb until he kept pointing it out no matter where we'd go. At the mall: "See? Indian people!" Driving on the highway: "Look! Indian driver!" Case in point of mamaji's potato theory is the Indian Raja Restaurant in Riga, Latvia. By way of Gridskipper, I have learned of this Indian (and Thai) eatery located in the capital of the Baltic nation of Latvia. Retired Indian Air Force commander Rajinder "Raj" Kumar Chaudhary settled down in this region in the early 90s and opened "Sue's Indian Raja" in honor of his deceased wife, whose dream it was to open a chain of restaurants. Prices range from 1.50 Latvian Lats (roughly US $2.57) for garlic naan to 11 Lats (US $ 18.88) for the prawns curry. Not exactly super cheap. But totally worth it when the food is being served to you by Latvian chicks in saris.
