[tech & gadgets] sony hdr-hc1 hdv camcorder
The good people at Sony claim the HDR-HC1 is the world's smallest and lightest consumer high definition camcorder (as of August 2005). Lucky for Sony, they seem to be one of the few manufacturers who are even dabbling with the consumer HD camcorder market (JVC and Canon seem to offer HD models of their own). The point is, the general consumer probably isn't ready for HD, but if you are among the lucky few who have experienced the joys of high definition, the sub-$2,000 Sony offering is a great buy, despite some minor design quirks highlighted in this CNET review. While I'm totally on board with HD programming on TV, I'm not so sure how Aunt Bertha is going to react the next time you playback footage of her birthday party and that mole above her lip waves back at you in glorious high definition.
