[home & decor] herman miller eames lounger
With the football playoffs in full swing, the World Baseball classic about to commence and March Madness on the way, my ass needs a comfortable seat to plant itself in for the 162 hours of sports programming that I'll be watching this spring. Since the lady friend doesn't consider my Google bean bag to be furniture that we can allow company to sit on, I need a chair that is both comfortable to my ass and comfortable to the eyes of company. What I need is one of those palisander wood Eames loungers from the 50s, as seen here. Initially released in 1956, the Eames chair and ottoman are being reproduced by Herman Miller and sold through the Eames Foundation (a non profit that maintains Ray and Charles Eames's house in Southern California). While the chair goes for $6,500, it comes with a one-year membership to the foundation and a pretty sweet tax break - 50 percent of the cost is deductible. [as featured in GQ magazine, Feb 2006]
