Vieux Farka Touré is the son of legendary Malian (West Africa) guitarist Ali Farka Touré. Now, when your old man was ranked among the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time by Rolling Stones, you'd think you'd want to pursue a different career. Apparently, Vieux didn't get the memo. His sophomore album, "Fondo," is being described as a young man coming into his own. There are a variety of influences peppered throughout this album, so it's difficult to categorize Fondo simply as world music. One thing is for sure: the apple didn't fall very far from the tree.
