[travel + scene] gilgamesh restraunt & lounge, london
Gilgamesh was an ancient Babylon king who was two-thirds god, one-third human, and regarded as a superhuman force. Gilgamesh the restraunt, appears to be two-thirds obnoxious and one-third hip. The £ 12 million restraunt & lounge opened this past weekend in London's Camden Stables market area and has created much buzz around its decor. As it's name would suggest, there is quite the ancient Egyptian theme at play here - complete with giant sphinxes, a sacrificial alter (the dj booth), and intricate wood carving-style designs all over the place. I'm betting that a decent chunk of that 12 million quid went into the retractable roof that opens up during nice weather - whenever THAT happens in London.[via Gridskipper]
