I don't consider myself to be a control freak...unless it comes to my home entertainment system. In which case I need to have complete and autonomous reign over my 42-inch Samsung LCD, as well as anything attached to it. Which is where this little guy comes in handy. The R50 Universal Remote has the ability to support up to 18 home theater components. This is where I'm slightly baffled, because I can't possibly imagine there are 18 things you can hook up to your tv. Unless they've figured out a way to connect your microwave to your entertainment system so that it starts popping corn at halftime of football games. The R50 features a customizable color screen and PC-free setup. This is important because a lot of UR's in the past had to be set up via a PC hookup whereas the R50 is good to go once you toss in 4 AA batteries. Although, I'm sure setup is more complicated than they'd have you believe. One review notes that it is "a little tricky to set up to control multiple devices at once." Either way, I think it's worth the trouble since I'm still looking for the remote to my surround sound system, which either the dog ate or is tucked away somewhere in the back of my freezer, near the ice cream sandwiches.
