[travel + design] amanbagh resort
The Amanbagh Resort in the northern Indian region of Rajasthan is a modern palace that also manages to capture the rich local culture and history within its design. Designed by American-born and Paris-based designer Edward Tuttle, the Amanbagh is the winner of Travel + Leisure's 2006 Design Awards in the "best resort" category. Tuttle's dramatic, sensitive building - with domed cupolas and magnificent stonework - is "an extrapolation of traditional Moghul architecture, abstracted and reinterpreted," as described by the T + L awards jury. Within these magnificent walls is a very clean and uncluttered design with geometric wooden screens, colorful fabrics and plenty of marble.
